Parkshot Rooms in Parkshot
Description
Parkshot is a road located in the Richmond Centre conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames, not far from Richmond Green. The Parkshot Rooms in the centre of this view were built c1905 on a site on the north-west side of Parkshot occupied previously by a Georgian house where the author George Eliot lodged between 1855 and 1859 and were first used as the offices of the Richmond Board of Guardians. The Parkshot Rooms and the public baths building to the right of view were demolished during the 1970s to make way for the Richmond-upon-Thames Magistrates Court building, which is now serves as offices for the distillers William Grant & Sons Ltd. The building to the left of view is number 6 of the terrace of early Georgian houses at numbers 4-6 Parkshot, which were Grade II listed in 1968, listing number 1357756. At that time, they served as an entrance to the Salem Baptist Church, which occupied the site to the rear of these buildings until it moved to Windsor Road, Kew, in 1973. The chapel, warehouse, stable buildings, and rear extensions were demolished during the late 1970s and the front elevations restored to something more like their original appearance. A number of vehicles can be seen parked in the street, including two Morris Minor saloons, A Volkswagen Beetle, a Ford Escort Estate and an Austin Cambridge.
