View of Paved Court
Paved Court is a lane between The Green and King Street located in the Richmond Green conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Some of the buildings date back to the late seventeenth century or early Georgian period and are listed by Historic England. This view shows some of the north-west side of the lane looking towards King Street, including the variable roofline of the different buildings. Most prominent in view is the shop at number 13, seen here as Richmond Repair Parlour. This building is of early eighteenth century and was Grade II listed in 1968, listing number 1065372. A modern sewing machine can be seen through the window, together with various boards displaying a range of garment repair services. Two planted window boxes above the shop hoarding complement the first-floor windows. The two shops beyond are numbers 15 and 17, which are mid-nineteenth century and Grade II listed in 1968, listing number 1357719. The shop at number 15 is shown trading as The Little Gallery (first floor). There are two shields are mounted next to the first floor window , one showing a coat of arms, the other a round and more ancient-looking shield, indicating the shop traded in early military collectables. The shop at number 17 is shown here trading as The Fabric House and has a striped awning, also having a row of planted window boxes stood on its casing indicating some synergy with the repair parlour. There is also a striped awning to one of the shops opposite, and a suspended sign beyond for de Grandcourt antiques shop. In the background, a man and a woman can be seen walking in opposite directions and partially visible shop fronts in King Street are thought to be BSM British School of Motoring and the Richmond and Twickenham Times local newspaper, which at the time was owned by the Dimbleby family.
