Boathouses in Buccleuch Passage
The boathouses in Richmond have a three-hundred-year association with boatbuilding, most recently in the fitting out of the Queen's Row Barge Gloriana for Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee. Among the buildings above and behind the boathouses are the old Palm Court Hotel (which incorporated Heron House, of early eighteenth century with later exensions by H Laxton, Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1357681), and Tower House at 10-12 Bridge Street (also by Laxton, Grade II listed in 1968, listing number 1358055). The photograph has been taken from one of the Buccleuch Passage archways of Richmond Bridge, which were Grade I listed in 1952, listing number 1180951. The hoarding above 1 Bridge Boathouse displays E & H Blight boats for hire. Some minor grafitti lettering is also visible.
