Title
Buildings in High Barnet High Street
Description
Front elevations of 68-70 High Street, High Barnet. Number 70 is a modern frontage on an earlier building and housing Pearl Wallpapers, an early and brightly lit DIY store. This is now redeveloped. Number 68 is the former inn called the Bull. Records of an inn on this site go back to the 1400s. The present building dates from about 1750, although Tudor timbers were found in a chimney fire in 1987. The tiling on the front with the two porches and bull's head drain spouts are Victorian, when it was known as The Old Bull. One traffic light for the High Street and Wood Street junction can be seen together with pedestrian railings and pedestrians.
