White Webbs in Clay Hill
Description
A view of the rear elevation of White Webbs, a grand house at Clay Hill, Enfield. The house is seen from afar across the garden between mature trees. The wide, two-storey house has a balustrade that runs along the roof and around full height projections. White Webbs was built in 1791 by Dr Abraham Wilkinson, who acquired the land and a pre-existing house, which he demolished. It was owned by Frederick Orr-Lewis, a Canadian businessman, in the twentieth century, and passed to his son Duncan in 1921. Sir Duncan Orr-Lewis sold the house to Enfield Council in 1931. Since then it has had a number of uses including as an old people's home. The house still exists and is used as a restaurant.
