'The idle 'prentice returned from sea, and in a garret with a prostitute', plate VII of "Industry and Idleness"; the apprentice and prostitute occupy a dilapidated bed; behind is an open fireplace down which falls a cat bricks. The apprentice sits up terrified but his companion is unmoved. A rat scampers over the floor, spread with domestic utensils and other articles.
