Description
A view of the front elevations of buildings at 1185-1195 High Road, Whetstone. Number 1185 is a timber-framed building with varying brickwork patterns between the members including herringbone, basketweave and Flemish bond. The building has a front door between two large windows suggesting it may have been a restaurant. Above these are panels of glass including many crown glass panes. The building at 1187-1195 has the look of an Art Deco cinema with thin black horizontal decorative bands, a central tower and porch over the entrance doors. It is the premises of Hopping Bros timber importers and merchants. The buildings no longer exist and the Totteridge Place N20 housing blocks occupy the site. The tower block visible at the right is 1255 High Road, a Barnet Council building. Cars parked include, from the left, an MG Midget Mark III, a Ford Cortina Mark II, a Triumph Herald and two Ford Cortina Mark I.
