Title
Barn at Wyldes Farm in Hampstead Way
Description
A view of the front elevation of a converted barn at Wyldes in Hampstead Way, Hampstead Garden Suburb. The image shows a dark, weatherboarded, two-storey barn. In the twentieth century, the farmhouse was occupied by Sir Raymond Unwin who converted the barn into part of the dwelling. A plaque on the wall says he lived there from 1906 to 1940. Unwin worked there while supervising the laying out of Hampstead Garden Suburb. A blue plaque on the facade of the main house says it was the home of painter John Linnell (1792-1882) and William Blake (1757-1827), the poet and artist. For a lobby entry house of its type, the house is regarded as a rare survival on the fringes of London. Some timbers are leaning against the barn and some wood is on the ground. Dating from seventeenth century or earlier, Wyldes Farm, also known as Old Wyldes, was Grade II* listed in 1963; listing number 1191239. The house was divided at some point and Wyldes, including the barn, was separately Grade II* listed in 1983; listing number 1359046.
