Description
A view of a wall at Gladsmuir, a grand house in Hadley Common, Barnet. The two-storey brick-built villa is visible at the left of the image. The picture shows a pile of bricks by a high wall. A propane gas cylinder stands on the ground near a trench in front of the house. A Ford Escort estate car with registration number TAR367M is parked by a doorway in the wall. Dating from c1830, Gladsmuir was Grade II listed in 1949 ; listing number 1359075. The house was known as Lemmons from 1968 when it was the home of novelists Kingsley Amis and his wife Elizabeth Jane Howard, who adopted the house's former name. Subsequent owners reverted to the name Gladsmuir.
