View of the ivy-covered south elevation, and wrought-iron pedestrian gateway through the garden wall of Harmondsworth Hall in Summerhouse Lane, Harmondsworth, looking east. The hall, gate and adjacent vehicle gates and wall (out of picture), are separately Grade II listed, listing number 1080123 and 1080124, respectively. The eighteenth-century hall was originally set in four acres of gardens where it once hosted society garden parties, tea dances and barbecues. The gravel drive leading to the gates is lined by dwarf trees in planters, seen with a cannon barrel mounted on a brick plinth at the corner of the building. The roof of Fir Tree cottage, on the far side of Summerhouse Lane, is visible beyond the high garden wall. The hall now serves as a guest house, with the gardens mostly given over to a mid twentieth-century housing development, all directly affected should London Heathrow Airport proceed with plans to build a third runway.
