Title
The Great Barn in Headstone Manor
Description
Headstone Manor in Pinner View, Headstone, Harrow, comprises three historic Grade-listed buildings: the moated Headstone Manor House, the Great Barn (formerly known as Tithe Barn), and the Small Barn. Formerly a working farm, since 1986 the restored Headstone Manor buildings and grounds have been in use as the Harrow Museum (along with the Granary, which was moved to the site from Pinner Park Farm in 1991). This image shows a view of the Grade II* listed Great Barn, built c1506 with a framework of English oak, composed of ten bays and 43m (141 feet) long; it was used to store grain and livestock. During World War II it was the centre of local home front activities. Today it is used for functions and community events. An oak tree with bench beneath and lawn are visible in foreground, as is a low white-painted brick wall with flower beds in front of flagpole. Outside the Great Barn is a woman and pram.
