The Kiln House in Common Road
Description
Front elevation of The Kiln House, Common Road, Brookshill, Stanmore. View of lawn and drive from south. Kiln House is the main house of a small country estate set in about eight acres of formal grounds with a lake and gardens. It is a two-storey brick building with bay windows dating from the mid-eighteenth century; it has been considerably altered since then, most recently in 1980s when a new wing was added. In its gardens are the ruins of a kiln, foundations of another, and a range of drying sheds – all evidence of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century brick-making activities of the Bodymead and Blackwell families.
