Description
Detail of fireplace in the ground-floor entrance hall at Gordon House, St Margaret's Road, Twickenham. Built probably c1720 and altered c1865, Gordon House is Grade II* listed, listing number 1240076. From 1946 till 1976 it served as the premises of Maria Grey Training College for Teachers, the first teacher training college for women in Great Britain. At the time of this photograph, the College was part of the West London Institute of Higher Education, which later became part of Brunel University. It was sold in 2005, when the University moved to Uxbridge.
