View of Victoria Embankment, Westminster, showing the dismantling of the Bailey Bridge on the south side of Hungerford Bridge. This was constructed for pedestrian access to The Festival of Britain on the South Bank and dismantled in 1952, after it closed. The view is from the Embankment pavement, south of the bridge. Already dismantled steel sections of the bridge lie in the roadway but the main part of the structure can still be seen. A self propelled crane sits in the road loading metalwork on an open backed Commer truck is parked, registration JXU 703 and three men in overalls and various hats, help to manoeuvre metalwork. In the background, to the left, is the entrance to 'The Playhouse' theatre.
