Description
View of Victoria Embankment, Westminster, from the south bank, looking to Whitehall Court. In the foreground are two ornamental footpath lamps, showing the dolphin feet, the barley twist lamp posts and the crown on top of the spherical lamp. A 'ghost' figure stands by the one on the right. On the far bank, to the left, are the domes and arrays of radio aerials on the Ministry of Defence and, to its right, impressive mass of Whitehall Court, which is Grade I listed, listing number 1278223. This was built between 1884-87 by Archer & Green and consists of eight storeys of flats in extravagant 'French Renaissance' style. To its right is the distinctive gantry signal box at the northern end. Empty lighters are moored in the Thames.
