Title
Victoria Embankment from Hungerford Bridge
Description
A postcard view of Victoria Embankment, looking north from Hungerford Bridge to old Waterloo Bridge. It was taken from above Charing Cross Pier, where a male and female wait. A paddle steamer has just left and is passing Cleopatra's Needle, the Grade I listed Egyptian obelisk (listing number 1066169), whilst another approaches from the direction of Waterloo Pier, where another vessel is moored. The image gives an excellent impression of the coherent range of buildings along the north bank of the Thames at that time, including the Hotel Cecil, Savoy Hotel and Restaurant with an enormous sign at roof level, and Somerset House in the distance.
