Description
View of Stafford Street, Mayfair. Stafford House at 5 Stafford Street, a four-storey building with attics and shops on the ground floor. It has decorative plaster friezes above the second floor. The shops are Collins Dry Cleaners, Le Petit Cafe, and Galleon Wine Off Licence. Le Petit Cafe is still trading. The Duke of Albemarle pub is visible on the left at number 6. On the right, 39-40 Albemarle Street is a five-storey building now known as Cardinal House. Stafford Street was built in 1686, on the site of Clarendon House and grounds by a syndicate of developers headed by Sir Thomas Bond, it is named after Margaret Stafford, one of his partners in the development.
