View of Curzon Street, Mayfair, showing the rear aspect of 6 Stanhope Gate. Number 45 Park Lane, on the corner with Curzon Street, was designed in the early 1960s by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school and a pioneer of modernist architecture. At this point occupied by Hugh Hefner's Playboy Club and frequented by the rich and famous until it closed in 1981 when its gambling licence was revoked. The site was rebuilt in 2010 and is now the 45 Park Lane Hotel. Behind is the rear of 6 Stanhope Gate, a four-storey house with basement, mansard roof and dormer windows, built in 1760, and Grade II listed, entry 1264513. In Curzon Street, signs on the railings read ‘Offices, Under Offer’ and a Jaguar car is parked on the street.
