Title
Vacant site in Pitts Head Mews
Description
View of Pitts Head Mews, Mayfair, from the corner with Stanhope Row (formerly Great Stanhope Street), looking west. A vacant corner site resulting from the destruction of property from a high explosive bomb in World War II. The two-storey terrace of 1-5 Pitts Head Mews is visible in the background. By the end of the eighteenth century, most of Mayfair was built on with upper-class housing. Pitts Head Mews leads west to Park Lane, and is south of the fashionable Curzon Street, for whose properties it provided stabling. The Pitts Head Mews block was redeveloped and is now the site of the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane.
