Looking south along Trebeck Street (formerly East Chapel Street) towards Shepherd Street, Mayfair. The area was originally the site of the annual fair which gives Mayfair its name, and was developed by architect Edward Shepherd between 1753 and 1746. 9 Trebeck Street is a three-storey building with a cafe, Benny's Sandwich Bar, at the corner and next door, The Brass Farthing, possibly a club. There is a 'For Sale' sign above the cafe and a vertical sign at the other end of the building advertising "Supermarket open daily till 11pm" at number 7. 9 Trebeck Street was Grade II listed in 1975, listing number 1357326. Across Shepherd Street a 1930's six-storey apartment block, Carrington House, is partially visible, with a record shop, Discurio, at number 9. Both Trebeck and Shepherd Street lie within the Mayfair conservation area designated in 1969. 9 Trebeck Street is still extant and re-numbered to 19. Carrington House is also extant, with mixed commercial and residential use.
