Shops in New Bond Street
Description
View looking north, showing terraced buildings with ground-floor shops at 66-71 New Bond Street, Mayfair. The central block at numbers 67-68 comprises a five-storey building with seven bays, an arched entrance with passageway and two shops at ground-floor level. Dating from 1896, the building was known as the Romaine-Walker building and later, Medici Court. The windows on the second and third floors are flanked by Shap granite columns. Elaborate friezes and cornice together with an array of carved stone heads adorn the front elevation. The second-floor centre bay is recessed. There is a cast-bronze detail above the arched passageway. Number 66-67 has a ground-floor shop trading as, "Hunts" ladies fashionwear. Dressed mannequins can be seen in the windows. There is a partial view of number 66, which has four storeys. Number 68 is trading as, "Susan of London", where handbags can be seen in the window displays. A separate side door has signs for, "Myers Office Equipment" and, "Wood and Steel" together with a hanging sign. There is a display cabinet on the wall outside. Number 69 is a four-storey building with the ground-floor shop trading as, "Coronel", a ladies fashion store. Displays of clothing can be seen inside together with wall-mounted spotlights. A carved figure can be seen between the first and second floors. There is a partial view of number 70 where a cartoon view of a female dancer can be seen displayed at ground-floor level with the name, "Kabaret" visible. Number 71 has a sign above the shop saying, "American". There are black rubbish bags on the street outside number 67. A group of pedestrians can be seen.
