Title
Shops at the junction of New Bond Street and Maddox Street
Description
View looking north, showing terraced buildings at 47-48 New Bond Street, Mayfair, at the junction with Maddox Street. The prominent five-storey corner building was built in 1906 to designs by William Flockhart for Francois Pinet, a French luxury shoemaker. The name "Pinet" can be seen on each striped canvas sun awning above the plate-glass display windows. The windows are embedded with decorated bronze picture framework, which remain today. There is a five-window range to the Maddox Street elevation, a one-window rounded corner and a further three-window range to the New Bond Street elevation. The bays are flanked by Corinthian columns with an ornate cornice below roof level. The first floor is trading as, "Swerling Manufacturing Furriers". A sign at the side entrance in Maddox street is advertising, "Horovitz Ltd" and "James Furs Ltd". The building is Grade II listed; listing number 1224394. Different businesses now trade from the premises. There is a partial view of 58 Maddox Street where a hanging sign for "Delateur Creative" can be seen. The ground-floor shop is trading as, "Carpet Bazaar". There is a partial view of 49 New Bond Street, a five-storey building with the ground floor trading as "Chappell" music publishers. Above is a hanging sign for, "Keith Prowse", a theatre-ticket agency. Three sets of traffic lights can be seen at the junction.
