View looking east taken from the junction with St Martin's Lane and New Row, showing terraced houses with ground-floor shops in New Row, Covent Garden. On the north side numbers 15-28 can be seen and on the south side numbers 1-14 are in view. To the left of the view is 59 St Martin's Lane, a tobacconist's shop with corner entrance. On the door are two posters advertising "Wall's" ice cream. There is a hanging sign in the form of a packet of cigarettes visible on the St Martin's Lane elevation. On the New Row elevation are signs for, "Benson & Hedges Hamlet Mild Cigars" and "Harlequin Cigars". A burglar alarm can be seen. To the right of the view is "The Angel & Crown" public house at 58 St Martin's Lane. The building dates from the late-eighteenth century with nineteenth-century alterations. The corner entrance door has signs for "Saloon Bar" and a drinks price menu is visible. A large sign above the entrance at first-floor level says, "Draught Bass". A separate side door entrance can be seen in the St Martin's Lane elevation with a hanging sign visible beneath a one-window range. Today the pub is called, "Mr. Fogg's Tavern" and the building is Grade II listed; listing number 1236047. Numerous exterior hanging signs can be seen above the shops in New Row, including, "Davisons Wine & Spirit Merchants" on the north side. "Drury's Tea & Coffee Co Ltd", "Licensed Betting Office" and "Fresh Cut Sandwiches" can be seen on the southern side. Buildings numbered 1-10 on the southern side of New Row are all Grade II listed. Numbers 23-25 on the northern side are also Grade II listed. Three streetlamps can be seen, which were erected in the nineteenth century and are collectively Grade II listed; listing number 1366023. There is a "No-Entry" sign visible. New Row was built between 1635-37 replacing the former "Castle and Sunne Alley" that connected St Martin's Lane to King Street and Covent Garden Market. Originally called New Street it was renamed New Row in 1937.
