Description
View looking north, showing a partial view of a pair of late seventeenth or early eighteenth-century terraced town houses with ground-floor shops at 23a-24 New Row, Covent Garden. Number 24 has a sign for "Leathergoods Ltd" above plate-glass display windows. A photocopying machine can be seen inside the shop. There are signs on the plate-glass doors advertising "Xerox copies at 4p each" and "Personal Letter Headings". There is a geometric patterned fanlight above the shop windows. A panelled door can be seen. The building is Grade II listed; listing number 1224988. Number 23A is trading as, "James Asman Record Centre". There is an external illuminated hanging sign advertising the business. Beneath is a rectangular, glass display cabinet advertising special sale records for jazz, pop, rock and country music. There is a panelled door and a striped awning can be seen above the shop window. The plate-glass door has a sign for, "Barclaycard" together with the business opening hours. James Asman ran the business from this building for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1989. His family continued trading there till the late 1990s. The building is Grade II listed; listing number 1366021. There is an ornate street lamp.
