Description
View looking north, showing a partial view of the ground and first floor of the "Round House" public house at 1 Garrick Street, Covent Garden. Built in 1868 it was originally called, "Petters Hotel" but was renamed in 1943 to better represent its semi-circular shape. A part-glazed entrance door can be seen together with an arch-shaped window. There is a hanging sign advertising "Younger's Scotch Ales". At first-floor level above the cornice is a metalwork design in the shape of repeated thistles and stars. There are posters on the wall promoting a public meeting about the future of Covent Garden. The pub remains in situ today. To the left is a partial view of 15 New Row, where a ground-floor cafe can be seen. There is a sign above the shop window advertising a snack bar. There are net curtains in the windows where a menu and a sign for takeaway tea and coffee can be seen. Today, the ground-floor shop is a Chinese take-away business.
