View of South Molton Street
Description
View of South Molton Street, Mayfair, looking south-east. South Molton Street, originally called South Molton Row, was developed from 1721 as part of Sir Thomas Grosvenor’s creation of Mayfair, marking the edge of the Mayfair estate along the course of the Tyburn River, which now runs underneath the street. Shops line each side of the road; on the right at number 26 is Nicole Hair Artiste, Browns menswear is at number 25 and number 24 is Prestat hand-made chocolates, established in 1902 by the French emigre Antoine Dufour. 24 South Molton Street is Grade II listed, listing number 1236524. On the left is a streetlight manufactured in Edinburgh by Mackenzie Brothers (later Mackenzie and Moncur). Lining the left-hand side of the street are shops and offices. A Bedford van and a Ford Transit Mark I registration VMV 369G are parked on the right and a Mazda R100 Coupe on the left with several other parked vehicles. There are pedestrians walking down the pavement on the left.
