Title
Buildings in Mount Street
Description
View of buildings on both sides of Mount Street, Mayfair, looking west towards the junction with Park Street. Beyond the junction is a substantial building of about nine storeys that houses the Grosvenor House Hotel. A row of cars is parked outside. The hotel was built in the 1920s and opened in 1929 on the site of Grosvenor House, the former London residence of the Dukes of Westminster, whose family name is Grosvenor. The building still exists. In the foreground on the left is the front elevation of an end-terrace house at 68 Mount Street, Mayfair. It is built in brick with stone dressings. The house has four storeys plus basement and gabled attic. Dating from 1896-97 and designed by Thackeray Turner and Eustace James Anthony Balfour for the Grosvenor Estate, number 68 Mount Street along with 14-22 Park Street were Grade II listed in 1982; listing number 1265987. The brick-built residential building beyond it on the left of Mount Street no longer exists and a later block occupies the site.
