Description
View of the front elevations of terraced buildings at 44 and 45 Mount Street and 56 South Audley Street, Mayfair. All have four storeys plus basement and attic storey. Number 44 Mount Street with 56 South Audley Street date from a rebuilding of South Audley Street from 1880 to 1900. Number 56 at the corner houses a branch of National Westminster Bank on the ground floor. A large terracotta plaque on the Mount Street elevation reads Audley Mansions. The building's front elevation extends some way along South Audley Street to the right. The adjoining house, number 44 Mount Street to the left, has a projecting stone portico to the pavement edge that covers steps up to the front door. Railings surround the basement areas. A sign for Linbrook & Sons, a general contractor, hangs from the railings of number 44. A blue plaque, out of view, recording the fact that theatre actor manager Jack Buchanan (1890-1957) lived there, is fixed to the wall of number 44.
