Interior in Mount Street
Description
View of a third-floor chimneypiece at a grand house at 54 Mount Street, Mayfair. The fireplace surround is covered in ceramic tiles. An electric coal-effect fire sits in the hearth. A framed print above the mantlepiece depicts a male lion drinking at a lake or river. Dating from 1896-97 and designed by Fairfax B. Wade for Lord Windsor, later the Earl of Plymouth, 54 Mount Street was Grade II* listed in 1970; listing number 1223620. The house was taken as his home by Prince Arthur of Connaught (1883-1938), a grandson of Queen Victoria and former governor general of South Africa, after his marriage to his cousin, Princess Alexandra of Fife, on 15 October 1913.
