Description
Street scene at Surrey Street, Westminster, looking from number 23 towards Strand. To the left is The Chesham, also known as Union Society of Kings College, a Grade II listed building, listing number 1237166. This is part of a group of former hotels called The Queens and Norfolk Hotels. Numbers 24 to 32 were built between 1891-1897 by John Dunn for Arundel Estate. Beyond this building, going north, are further Grade II listed buildings. On the right is part of the Howard Hotel. Beyond this is Howard Street on the right with several public houses beyond. Parked on the right facing the camera are two motor cars. There are several street lights along the street. There is a man walking up Surrey Street on the left. In the distance can be seen Australia House. All the buildings on the right, including Howard Street, have since been demolished and replaced with modern buildings. The buildings on the left are now part of Kings College London.
