Description
Front elevation of 6 Stratton Street, Westminster. A Grade II listed building, listing number 1264239, built in the late-eighteenth century. It has four storeys and a basement. The view is taken from Mayfair Place which did not exist at the time but was built in the grounds of Devonshire House. The front door is to the right with name plates either side. There is a single window to the right and two windows to the left. All have arched tops to them. The ground floor is in a stucco style. To the front of the house facing the pavement are wrought-iron railings, preventing people falling into the basement. There is a cast-iron column supporting the front of the bay with wrought-iron railings to the windows. The street name plate can be seen to the left of the building above the ground-floor windows. Below this is a sign for London Life Insurance which occupied the building at this time. At the end of the nineteenth century the building was occupied by John Macvicar Anderson and his second son who were prominent architects. All the buildings in this area were damaged during the Blitz of World War II. This building has since been renovated and is now offices.
