Description
Front elevations of 17-19 Surrey Street, Westminster, looking south towards the River Thames. Number 17 is on the corner of Howard Street; a large six-storey office block with a basement and an attic. The ground floor has large windows filling the entire space between floor and ceiling. The door to this building is visible down Surrey Street with a flight of steps to it, and a lamp column on the pavement There is a wrought-iron fence around the front of the building with a gate to the basement on the corner. There is a traffic sign on the corner of Howard Street with a car parked at a parking meter. The next building down Surrey Street is one side of the Howard Hotel with 19 Surrey Street beyond it. There are dustbins on the pavement outside number 19. On the right, several cars are parked at parking meters. In the distance are trees in Temple Place Gardens. The image also shows how steep Surrey Street is towards the River Thames. All the buildings on the left have been demolished along with Howard Street, and a large modern block now covers the area.
