Description
View of Strand Lane, Westminster, looking north towards St Clements Watch House which straddles Strand Lane. St Clements Watch House is a Grade II listed building, listing number 126425. A surviving example of an early eighteenth-century Parish Watch House. There is a balcony along the full width of the floor above the passage. This has an ornate wrought-iron balustrade to the front with ornate columns to the front and sides supporting a pagoda-style roof. There are two large sets of full-height glass doors opening onto the balcony. There is a large electric lamp fixed to the wall of the watch house below the left side of the balcony. There is a window to the right below the balcony. There are two large windows above the roof of the balcony with a drainpipe fixed to the right of the windows, probably to drain the roof. The building to the right houses the Grade II listed ‘Roman Bath’. The wall to the left of the image is Kings College. Strand Lane is now gated at the southern end behind the camera making it a private access.
