Description
Interior of 5 Strand Lane, Westminster. A Grade II listed Roman Bath, listing number 1237102 which was an early seventeenth-century cistern part of the old Somerset House. This is a brick-lined structure which appears to have suffered some damage, with what seems to be a drainage channel in the left corner. A square chamber faces the camera at the top of the bath and, on the right side, there is a metal step fixed in the brickwork just below the top. The right walkway has a tubular barrier to prevent people accessing the bath, with the end turned at a right angle to prevent people walking around the bath. There is a doorway with two steps to the extreme right of the image, possibly access from the building. On the extreme left there is a pipe running the length of the wall, supported at the end by a brick pier where it penetrates the far wall. There are supporting beams to the ceiling with openings in the brickwork between the beams and the ceiling. This building is now under the care of The National Trust.
