View of a building of about six storeys under construction in Strand, Covent Garden, at the corner of Savoy Street. The building, Wellington House at 120-125 Strand, is fully scaffolded. The earlier building on the site in Wellington Street on the approach to Waterloo Bridge had been demolished as part of a widening of the Strand. A sign invites inquiries for premises in the new building. Signs on the scaffolding refer to steelwork from the Dorman Long company, and F. G. Minter, contractor of Putney. Posters on a hoarding around the site advertise Nestle milk, Oxo flavouring, Eno's salts, The Daily Express newspaper, Army Club cigarettes and Sandeman's port. The London Pavilion cinema advertises the silent comedy film Not for Sale, made in 1924. An illuminated streetlight, bears the text "The Sport of Kings". The commercial building at the left of the image, Duchy House at 133 Strand and 2-8 (even) Wellington Street, still exists.
