Title
Buildings in Strand
Description
View of buildings in Strand, Covent Garden, looking east from Exeter Street. The street is busy with many horse-drawn carriages and a horse-drawn bus. On the left is a horse-drawn van bearing the legend "B.T.T. Popular Prices", possible referring to British Tea Table 1897 Ltd, a cafe chain with a branch nearby at 163a Strand. The buildings have about four storeys and many have shops on the ground floor. 368 Strand is nearest the camera on the left. At 367 is the offices of The Globe, a British newspaper that was published from 1803 to 1921. These buildings no longer exist and The Strand Palace Hotel occupies the site. After 366 is Burleigh Street. The buildings to its right still exist. On the right-hand side of Strand are signs for the play My Lady Molly outside Terry's Theatre, where the comedy opera opened in 1903. The show was written by George H. Jessop, with additional lyrics by Percy Greenbank and Charles H. Taylor, and music by Sidney Jones. The theatre no longer exists and an office block occupies the site.
