View of part of the side elevation of a building at 6-7 Strand, Covent Garden, housing Strand Corner House cafe, seen from Craven Street. A sign on the cafe also refers to Monks Tavern, a bar in the building. A moulded or carved relief depicts monks in a scene of merrymaking. The building survived until at least 1977 but no longer exists. The cafe was opened in 1915 by J. Lyons Co. and became part of a large chain of Lyons Corner Houses. It was replaced by a later block of about 10 storeys which has also since been demolished. The darker building is a light industrial building of about four storeys. None of the buildings shown still exist, the sites having been redeveloped.
