Interior of Lloyds Bank in Strand
Description
View of the inner entrance hall at a branch of Lloyds Bank at 222-225 Strand, Covent Garden. A curved staircase rises to serve the first floor and another leads down. A frieze of putti and swags decorates the space. Many of the fittings are in wood and these include carved Ionic pilasters. The premises were built as the restaurant for The Royal Courts of Justice, known as Palsgrave Restaurant, in 1882-3 by Goymour Cuthbert and W. Wimble. They later became the Law Courts Branch of Lloyds Bank in 1894. The bank closed the branch in 2017. The former Lloyds Bank at 222-225 Strand was Grade II listed in 1987; listing number 1236755.
