Description
Elevated view of buildings on both sides of Strand, Covent Garden, looking west. Buildings have seven or eight storeys, many with shops on the ground floor. Those on the left include Freeman Hardy and Willis shoes and Woolworth general retailer. To their right is a building housing Simpson's restaurant and part of The Savoy Hotel, whose vehicle entrance is just beyond the Simpson's awning. Most of the buildings shown on the left still exist. In the road are a number of vehicles including several Austin FX4 London taxis and two London Transport Routemaster buses. In the foreground is a Morris FG truck bearing the logo of Initial Services, a hygiene company. Built as an extension to The Savoy Hotel complex in 1903-04, 96-104 Strand was Grade II listed in 1987 as Simpson's; listing number 1236740.
