Description
Front elevation of 14-15 Great College Street, City of Westminster. A pair of terraced houses with three storey, dormered mansard attics, and basements. Number 14 with an arched hood over the doorcase, and number 15 with a pediment. Built in 1905 by architect Horace Field for Sir Charles Trevelyan at number 14, and Walter Runciman at number 15. Sir Charles Trevelyan, politician and landowner, served as President of the Board of Education in 1924 and between 1929 and 1931 in the first two Labour administrations of Ramsay MacDonald, the first Labour Prime Minister. Walter Runciman was a prominent Liberal politician. His 1938 diplomatic mission to Czechoslovakia was key to the enactment of the British policy of appeasement of Nazi Germany preceding World War II.
