Description
Rear view of the facades of 15-16 Grosvenor Street, Mayfair, during renovation of those properties in 1976. Scaffolding holds the front facades in place and buttresses the party wall of an adjoining terraced property. From a cloud of dust, a digger claw scoops up bricks, pipework and other rubble. Clearly visible are the three window openings of number 15 and the five window openings of number 16, but there is no roof, side walls, attic, chimneys, or rear elevation. Also revealed are the basements and the party wall. Number 16 was built 1720 as a townhouse by Thomas Ripley and is now in business occupation. Number 15 was entirely rebuilt in the early-nineteenth century to be the Rectory of St George's Church, Hanover Square. Number 16, now comprising the merged properties at 15 and 16, is Grade II listed, listing number 1228512.
