View of lecture room in 49 Grosvenor Street, Mayfair. It shows a corner of a high-ceilinged room in the rear wing built in 1882. It has a deep cornice, white-painted walls and wood flooring. To the left of the corner is a long sash window with curtains, nets and pelmet, and dark-wood panelled shutters folded within its windowcase. To the left of the window down a pilaster is a long, panel of arabesques painted on canvas. Two small pictures and wooden chairs can be seen and a small lacquered chest. 49 was, in 1975, the venue of the Sesame Pioneers Lyceum Club, a literary and social club for men and women, particularly interested in educational matters. The Club was the London residence of Edith Sitwell, who dined there with Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller in 1956. 49, built in 1725, is Grade II listed, listing number 1357082.
