Interior of a house in Chesterfield Street
A view of a first-floor front room at a house at 10 Chesterfield Street, Mayfair. The ceiling has a geometric pattern and the wall bears classical motifs in stucco. A light fitting with etched glass pattern hangs from the ceiling. A chimneypiece stands on fluted columns with a large decorative central panel. A plant sits on the mantlepiece. Two desks can be seen in front of the chimneypiece, each with an electric typewriter, though one of these is covered. Dating from about 1800, number 10 Chesterfield Street was Grade II listed in 1958; listing number 1066269. Number 10 Chesterfield Street was used between 1944 and 1953 by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) for work on Soviet targets by up to 60 people.
