A view from the top of the scaffolding surrounding Carlisle Mansions, numbers 41-85, in Carlisle Place, Westminster which were built in 1886. Looking past a large chimney stack in the centre of the photo across Carlisle Place in the direction of Victoria Street you can see Westminster Cathedral by Morpeth Terrace and Cathedral Piazza which is grade II listed, listing number 1066500. The Byzantine style cathedral was built by J.F. Bentley from 1895-1903. Buildings on the opposite side of Carlisle Place, starting with number 1 on the left were built in different styles. On the far left of the photograph a modern tower block completed in 1975 is seen, 171 Victoria Street, offices of BP Oil Ltd, which since 1989 housed the John Lewis headquarters.
