Description
A view of 1a Caroline Terrace, Belgravia. The house has a basement and a dormer. It contains a plain flush front door with a brass doorknob and brass letter box and casement windows surmounted by triangular pediments. A triangular pediment containing a decorative bas relief motif can also be seen above the front door and fanlight. The roof consists of glass panels and a dormer casement window. Attached to the side of the entrance is a Victorian style porch lamp and fronting the property are iron railings. Attached to the iron railings is an old tall metal gas lamp holder with a plant placed into the top. On the roof of number 1a and the neighbouring number 1 can be seen TV aerials. The house was once lived in by the artist Charles McCall until his death on 3 October 1989. Charles McCall who was born in Edinburgh in 1907 studied art at Edinburgh College of Art and also in Paris and Spain. Number 1 Caroline Terrace is seen on the right with its exterior louvred wooden shutters attached to the first-floor window. On the far left of the photograph can be seen the side and rear windows of the neighbouring Grade II listed number 1290129 houses at numbers 42 and 44 Eaton Terrace, Belgravia. Parked in the street can be seen two vehicles, one a four-door saloon car and the other a Ford Capri. Changes include removal of the dormer casement window at number 1a and the removal of the exterior wooden shutters at number 1. A blue plaque commemorating Charles McCall was also placed onto the front of number 1a.
