Advertising hoardings in Nightingale Lane
View, looking west, of advertising hoardings and posters erected in front of a former mansion at 99 Nightingale Lane, Balham, prior to the conversion of the building into the Queen Elizabeth Maternity Hospital in 1947. The posters advertise shows and films in London Theatres including the Picture House, Balham, the Granada Theatre, Clapham, the London Palladium and the Tivoli Theatre in The Strand. Advertised goods include Gordon's Gin, Camp Coffee, Boots chemists, Longman's, Vim cleaning products and Heinz foods. A board mounted on the wall points to the premises of the Nightingale Garage Engineering Co Ltd works and lock-ups and car hire. Now called Queen Elizabeth House, building currently provides sheltered retirement housing managed by the Wandle Housing Association.
