House in Albemarle Street
Description
Front elevation of 7 Albemarle Street, Piccadilly. Grade II listed, listing number 1357179. Built for Sir John Norris in 1721, it is a four-storey, five-bay, brick-built house with a stuccoed ground floor. The off-centre front door has large projecting brackets, supporting a large glass and iron lantern. A sign above the door proclaims it to be The National Book League. The large first-floor sash windows have small wrought iron balconettes and a flagpole projects from the central one. In the nineteenth century it was Grillions Hotel. A Mini, registration GLO 538C, is parked outside and the front of an Austin/Morris commercial van can be seen. Beyond, towards the corner of Stafford Street, a projecting sign proclaims number 5 to be a 'Chef and Brewer' pub/restaurant.
