Title
Ingleton House in Rectory Grove
Description
A view of the side of the former hall/refectory at Ingleton House, 4 Rectory Grove, Clapham. The single-storey hall which was built c1912 which contains a dormer window in its roof and tall side windows was originally the refectory of the St Hugh's Boys Home (later called Ingleton House Boys Home). The home which existed from 1903-1938 was run by an Anglican religious society named the Society of the Good Shepherd. The children's home was formed out of two Georgian houses (built in around the 1790s) which were originally numbered 2-4 Rectory Grove and later re-numbered 4 Rectory Grove. In c1912 alterations were made to the building which included the refectory and the adjacent chapel designed by Lionel Grace (part the chapel can be seen on the far right of the photograph). The chapel (later numbered 4a Rectory Grove) was used by the CAVE (Community and Voluntary Education) School until the school closed in c2005. In 2009 the chapel was given a new use as Clapham Pottery.
