Ashburton House grounds in Putney Heath
Description
View of the Summer House, Ashburton House, Putney Heath, Putney, viewed across the fish pond. It has triangular roof tiles and a bay window with leaden glass overlooking the pond. To the front is a low ornamental balustrade with steps down to the pond. The house is surrounded by tall trees and bushes, and the surface of the pond is iced over with snow lying on the ground. Among the occupants of Ashburton House was John Carlisle, a civil engineer and ship owner who managed the Blue Star Line. The house has been demolished and the grounds cleared with the pond filled in. The Ashburton housing estate covers the area.
