Ashburton House in Putney Heath
Description
View of the west elevation of Ashburton House, Putney Heath, Putney, viewed from the entrance to the stable yard. Ashburton House was built between 1853-54 by William Harrison in the Elizabethan style. It has a distinctive pattern of light coloured brickwork across the entire house. There are tall distinctive chimney stacks and some of the windows are broken. The wall and gate pillars to the stable yard are of substanial stone construction. To the right is an open fronted storage building. The grounds are overgrown and covered in snow. Among the occupants of Ashburton House was John Carlisle, a civil engineer and ship owner who managed the Blue Star Line. This house was demolished in the early 1950s and the Asburton Housing estate covers the area.
